  • I used to get this question a lot in the Sex Ed unit during my Health classes.  It didn't surprise me when I got it from my Freshman, but I was really surprised when this question came up in my upper division high school Psychology class in the Marital Sex section of the book.  By the way, hands down BEST LECTURE I ever gave.  Students were screaming & crying with laughter, falling on the floor.  Students and teachers from classrooms on both sides come up asking what happened, but none of my students said anything.  I remember like it was yesterday. 

    If you LIKE something or someone, there isn’t much emotion or commitment or value to the relationship.  But if you LOVE something or someone, the emotion and commitment is there, and you take care of it or them. 

    I used to teach my Psych class and my sons, "Don't marry the one you can live with.  Marry the one you can't live without".  That is true love.

    I can back that up with 43 years of marriage to the same young lady stays married to me despite my sense of humor and mastery of cooking to burn garlic bread.

But once they get to school, some devilish transformation comes over some of them and they become unrecognizable and intolerable to us.
